Activities San Diego

Recreational amenities at Santee Lakes make staying here a very pleasant experience. Camp, rent a cabin, fish the year-round sport fish, go boating, explore walking trails, and see around 230 types of birds while you're here. You can also rent out facilities or host special events on-site if you're looking to host a larger event!

There is nothing better than a picnic, a party, a wedding, or any other event under the sun. Simply participate in one of our hosted events, such as Santee Lakes PJ & Popcorn Movie Night, Night Fishing, or Paint & Sip On the Deck.

You can have a fun, full experience at San Diego Santee Lakes, whether you are an individual looking for some quiet time out of the city, a family with young kids, a group of college friends, or a couple looking to reconnect for a weekend.

For more information about the events at Santee Lakes, you can always check the Santee Lakes Event Calendar.

Hikes Near Santee

We should probably make a list of all the amazing hikes around Santee! In that case, here are some of our top Santee hikes:

Cowles Mountain Trail

Make sure you do your research before heading here, as there are a number of trails you can use to access this, including Big Rock, Mesa, Barker Way, and the service road. There is a wide range of hiking lengths and difficulties, so prepare yourself before you begin.

Fortuna Mountain Trail

In addition to North Fortuna Mountain Trail, you can access it via Oak Canyon, North Fortuna Trails, or Grasslands. The trail is 543 miles long, but you can access it from Oak Canyon, Fortuna Saddle, or North Fortuna Trails if you want to use something a little shorter.

The North and South Fortuna and Kwaay Paay Peak Trail, a 10-49 mile loop trail, is ideal for longer hikes.

Kwaay Paay

The Kwaay Paay trail is a mostly steep 24-mile hike that provides some of the best views of San Diego. Make sure to get down before it gets fully dark, as the path down is rocky and we encourage conditions with better visibility.

Wrapping Up

Regardless of whether you drive to Santee Lakes or take the San Diego Green Line Trolley, whether you come for a day or stay for the week, and whether you choose to fish and hike or sip and paint, there is truly an experience built for everyone here.
